About The Lead Singer Of Black Sabbath

Ozzy rose the fame during the 1970s as the lead vocalist of the band Black Sabbath. During this period, he adopted the nickname Prince of Darkness. He was born in Coleshill to Lilian and John Thomas Jack Osbourne. His mother was a non-observant Catholic who used to work at a Lucas factory. While his father worked as a toolmaker at the General Electric Company.

Ozzy has three older sisters; Jean, Iris, and Gillian, and two younger brothers; Paul and Tony. His family used to live in a small two-bedroom home in Aston. He got the nickname Ozzy in primary school. During his school days, Ozzy dealt with dyslexia. He even suffered sexual abuse from school bullies at the age of 11. Ozzy claimed that he had attempted suicide multiple times as a teenager.

In 1976, Geezer Butler formed his first band named Rare Breed. He soon recruited Osbourne to serve as the original lead singer of Black Sabbath. The band played two shows and then broke up. They together reunited in Polka Tulk Blues along with guitarist Tony Iommi and drummer Bill Ward. They renamed themselves Earth but later decided to change their name again and settled with the name Black Sabbath.

But he still had a successful solo career by releasing 13 studio albums. He even received multi-platinum certifications in the US. In 1984, Ron Keel became the new lead singer of Black Sabbath. Ron started his recording career with a Tennessee-based band named Lust. With Black Sabbath, he recorded some demos but soon parted ways when the band had a falling out with producer Spencer Proffer. Keel formed a new band and named it Keel. In 1997, he rejoined the band and recorded the group’s final studio album 13 before Black Sabbath members embarked on a farewell tour.

Ozzy met his first wife Thelma at a nightclub in Birmingham. The couple got married in 1972 and their children Jessica and Louis were soon born. His drug and alcohol use took a toll on his family life. His children, later on, complained that he was not a good father. In the documentary film God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, Ozzy admitted that he did not even remember when his children were born.
